few years of preparation.

27-OCT-2000: Ornithoptera
priamus tayandensis was downgraded to be a synonym of O.p.albireo,
based on a possible misunderstanding of the location of Tayandu
Is.
- 27-OCT-2000: Correction of the
spelling of geographical names: In practically all books and many scientific
papers the names of many localities have been incorrectly spelt. The situation
has been especially bad with regard to places in Indonesia, but even
localities in e.g. China and Papua New Guinea - as well as other countries -
have received a rather disrespectful treatment. This author have laid down
some efforts attempting to correct all geographical names mentioned in this
work.
As far as it has been possible, all names in this web site now follow
the spellings used in "The Times Atlas of the World - Comprehensive Edition",
9th edition with revisions, London 1998". Several localities are,
however, to small to be shown in the mentioned atlas. In the struggle to
achieve the best result, other sources have been consulted as well. These
include the following:
- Nelles Verlag (München)'s (undated) maps: -
Indonesia 1: Sumatra (1:1500000), Indonesia 2: Java and West Nusa Tenggara
(1:1500000), Indonesia 3: Bali (1:180000), Indonesia 4: Kalimantan
(1:1500000), Indonesia 5: Java and Bali (1:650000), Indonesia 6: Sulawesi
(1:1500000), Indonesia 7: Irian Jaya and Maluku (1:1500000), Philippines
(1:1500000).
- Universal Business Directories (Macquarie Park, NSW): Papua
New Guinea (1:2420000) (undated).
- Robinson (Dee Why, NSW)'s Runaway
Series: Papua New Guinea (1:1925000) (undated).
For the tiniest islands not
mentioned in any of the above maps even two traveller's guide books have been
used: "Indonesia Handbook", Moon Publications, Chico, CAL, 1989, 1058pp and
Lonely Planet's "Indonesia", Hawthorne, Vic, 1997, 1050 pp.
Even with the
assistance of above sources there are still a handful names which this author
has not been able to trace anywhere. The continued search for the origin and
correct spelling of these last few names will continue.
