The World of Birdwing Butterflies

TROIDES PLATO

Troides plato is an endemic to Timor Island.

Recent specimens come almost exclusively from the western, Indonesian part of Timor, but the species is also well known from East Timor.

Tsukada & Nishiyama (1980, 1982) referred to a Japanese collector who reported it to be "rather abundant and easily captured as it flied slow and frequently visited flowers".

The flight period is mostly restricted to the wet season.
