Troides amphrysus is a fairly common species found in the regions of Malaya, Sumatra, Java and Borneo. Several new subspecies have been described over the last few years.
T. amphrysus can be seen in the air the whole day. It is one of the first butterflies to appear in the morning, and one of the last to go to rest in the afternoon. Amphrysus can be even be spotted in light rain.
The species usually flies 20-30 m above ground, but will often make rapid descends to low growing flowers.
