The World of Birdwing Butterflies

"ORNITHOPTERA AKAKEAE"

O. akakeae was described from a single male, collected by I. Toeante on the 19th September 1977.

Kobayashi & Koiwaya considered it sympatric with S. rothschildi and S. tithonus.

Haugum & Low (1979), however, concluded that the taxon is a natural hybrid between S. rothschildi and O. priamus poseidon.
