Original description: as Papilio Danaus rapae in Syst.Nat. (Edn. 10) I: 468.
Syn.: metra (Stephens, 1827)
nelo (Bergsträsser, 1779)
napaeae (Esper, 1805)
Type locality of nominate species: Sweden.
Worldwide distribution: North Africa, Europe, Asia to Japan. Introduced to North America, Hawaiï,
New Zealand and Australia, where it is now widespread. At least in
Australia P.rapae has become a pest for the agriculture industry.
Subspecies in Norway: P.r.rapae.

Type locality of subspecies: Sweden.
Distribution in Norway: South Norway. Occasionally found in North Norway.
Notes: In Norway rapae is less common than brassicae and napi.
Described forms found in Norway: f. 1.gen. metra Stephens, 1827
f. 2.gen. aestiva
Etymology: rapae = a turnip.
aestiva: aestivus = pertaining to the summer.
