Original description: as Papilio Nymphalis paphia in Syst.Nat. (Edn. 10) I: 481.
Syn.: anargyra Staudinger, 1871
Type locality of nominate species: Sweden.
Worldwide distribution: Algeria, Europe, temperate parts of Asia to China, Korea and Japan.
Subspecies in Norway: A.p.paphia.

Type locality of subspecies: Sweden.
Distribution in Norway: South-east Norway.
Notes: A. paphia is a rare species in the northern part of Oslofjord. Further south along the coast between Oslo
and Kristiansand it is more common.
The bronze-green female form valesina is very rare in Norway.
Described forms found in Norway: ff. valesina Esper
Etymology: paphia: Paphos, city of Cyprus, sacred of Venus.
