Original description: as Polyommatus nicias in Syst. Bechr. eur. Schmett. 2 : 10.
Syn.: donzelli (Boisduval, 1832)
Type locality of nominate species: Rhetial Alps (Switzerland) [Verity, 1943]
Subspecies in Norway: A. nicias scandica.
Recognized subspecies: A. nicias nicias Meingen, [1830] - Spain, Andorra, France; E Pyrenees and France, Switzerland, Italy; S Alps.
  A. nicias scandica (Wahlgren, 1930) - Scandinavia and Finnland.
  A. nicias kolosovi Korshunov, 1995 (= septentrionalis Krulikovsky, 1908, nom. praeocc.) - Ural, W Siberia (TL: "Provincia Wiatka" [Tatarstan]).
  A. nicias bittis (Fruhstorfer, 1914) - Atlai and Sayan (TL: "Altai Central").
  A. nicias borsippa (Fruhstorfer, 1914) - Transbaikalia (TL: "Kentei-Gebirge").
Worldwide distribution: Pyrenees, Alps, Norway eastwards through Siberia north to 60oN to Transbaikalia and Mongolia.

Distribution in Norway: East part of Hedmark fylke, South Norway.
