Norwegian name: Sydlig ringvinge.

Original description: as Papilio Nymphalis megera in Syst. Nat. (Edn. 12), I : 771.
Syn.: - - -
Type locality of nominate species: Austria and Denmark.
Worldwide distribution: N Africa, Middle East, S and C Europe to the Urals, Iraq, Iran, Transcaucasus to
Turkmenistan.
Subspecies in Norway: P.m.megera.

Type locality of subspecies: Austria and Denmark.
Distribution in Norway: Confined to the coast line of South-East Norway.
Notes: P. megera has not been found on the southern coast (Sørlandet) since the mid-1960s.
The northern limit in Norway is Hurum, south of Drammen.

Etymology: megera: Megara was a Theban princess in Greek mythology,
daughter of King Kreon and wife of Herakles.
