B.improba improbula | |
| Auctor: | (Bryk, 1920) |
| Syn.: | as Argynnis improba f. improbula in Ent. Tidskrift, 41:131. |
| Type locality of subspecies: | Torneträsk, Swedish Lapland. |
| Distribution in Norway: | Mountains of inner Troms, North Norway. |
| Notes: | B.improba is one of Norway's rarest butterflies. Until recently, the only confirmed records from Norway were from |
| 1893 (leg. Hans Jacob Sparre Schneider), 1922 (leg. Tron Soot-Ryen) and 1948 (leg. Henrik Bruun). | |
|
But in 2008 a previously unknown population was found in Bardu kommune (leg. Lars Andersen). |
|
| Today improba is recorded from localities in Troms regions, elevation approx 900 - 1130 m above sea-level. | |
| B.improba inhabits the most exposed glacial plateaus, where it flies close to ground, or just crawls among low | |
| flowers in the strong wind. | |
| Described forms found in Norway: | - - - |
| Etymology: | improba: improbus = below standard, of bad quality, poor, inferior (a rather improper name for a butterfly surviving |
| in some of this planet's most harsh areas!). | |
| improbula is a patronymic derivation from improba. | |
