Original description: as Papilio Plebejus betulae in Syst.Nat. (Edn. 10) I: 482.
Syn.: spinosae (Gerhard, 1850)
Syn.: ongodai Tutt, 1908
Syn.: daurica Dubatolov, 1999
Type locality of nominate species: Sweden
Subspecies in Norway: T. b. betulae
Worldwide distribution: Europe, temperate parts of Asia to Mongolia, China and Korea.

Type locality of subspecies: Sweden.
Distribution in Norway: Restricted to the coast from Oslo in the north to Tvedestrand in
the south. An old record from Hamar (1905) has never been reconfirmed.
