Type locality of nominate species: Sweden.
Worldwide distribution: C Europe to South Urals and across Caucasus and Asia Minor to Iran (Ardabīl province).
Subspecies in Norway: C.a.arcania.

Type locality of subspecies: Sweden.
Distribution in Norway: South-eastern part of Norway only; stfold and SE Akershus.
Notes: C. arcania is slowly spreading northwards towards Oslo.

Etymology: arcania: arcanus (Latin) = hidden, silent, mysterious.
