PYRGUS ANDROMEDAE

 

English name: Alpine Grizzled Skipper.
Norwegian name: Andromedasmyger.
Auctor: (Wallengren, 1853)
Original description: as Syrichtus andromedae in Öfvers. K. Vetensk. Förh. 10 : 25.
Syn.: - - -
Type locality of nominate species: Dalarna, Sweden.
Worldwide distribution: North Fennoscandia, Polar Urals, Pyrenees, Alps, Carpathians, high mountains
of Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia.
Distribution in Norway: North Norway.
Subspecies in Norway: Only the nominate subspecies exist.
Notes: P. andromedae is a rare species, often difficult to spot when flying rapid and close
to ground.
Etymology: andromedae: Andromede (Greek mythology) was the daughter of
Cepheus and Cassiope; a genus of the health family.
