Original description: as Papilio Nymphalis aglaja in Syst.Nat. (Edn. 10) I: 481.
Syn.: charlotta [Haworth], 1802
Type locality of nominate species: Sweden.
Worldwide distribution: Almost entire Palaearctic region; Morocco, Europe, temperate parts of Asia to
China and Japan.
Subspecies in Norway: A.a.aglaja.

Type locality of subspecies: Sweden.
Distribution in Norway: Norway as far north as north Troms.
Notes: A. aglaja is a common species and can even be found above the timber line.
